Nice place, lovely surroundings, good food (at a price), sounds lovely right? Wrong!!!
Why do I rant about this place? The staff, not through poor service, indeed the service is generally very good but the fact that in the past two times I have been there in the past month I have been humiliated in front of my girlfriend and my friends.
The first instance was when me and my girlfriend went there for a drink, the weather was rather wet and cold and we asked for Hot Chocolates, nothing wrong with this but the waiter said that the machine was broken. Fair enough I said and we decided to visit another establishment only for the waiter to say that he was only joking as we were walking out and that we could have the drinks and he made me the but of all his jokes. Ha fucking ha, this didn’t really belittle me but was still jokes at my expense which I don’t happen to be fond of!
The second instance happened today, for those of you that don’t know when you eat in the restaurant at this place (rather than the bar) you sit in a small bar area and choose your food. The menus are on small wooden 6” square paddles with long pointy handles, seems pleasant enough but these menus are stored in the wall behind the seats and this is where ‘the incident’ occurred!
I sat down rather heavily I admit on the sofa and as I put my head back I smacked into said pointy handles with quite a lot of force. These handles were protruding from the wall at head height and about 8” from the wall which as I see it is a major health and safety hazard. There were no signs or warnings and when I smacked my head what did the waiters, bar staff, reception staff and restaurant manger do? THEY ALL LAUGHED!!!!! Now I don’t mind a laugh and a joke but this was not a clip from You’ve Been Framed and the very fact that they did not apologise for their negligence and made fun out of the situation all the way throughout the meal really pissed me off and made me feel like shit.
So here I am some 5 hours later with blinding pain down the right hand side of my head and feeling sick from the pain, do I feel better for writing this rant? No but I urge all readers to boycott this place, the best food in the world may very well be served here (although I sincerely doubt it!) but if the staff make you feel like shit then the whole experience is ruined and I for one will not be going back.
Does anybody know Jersey Law on the Health and Safety issue? Could I sue?

Out of all the times I have been there the only thing I have found “halfway good” is the alcohol. Taste is regular and the price is extortionate. Food is overpriced and Service isn’t the greatest…….It usually helps when people smile but when they’re bringing you your courses or drinks or both with a busted-boot of a face you feel declined to tip them.
The prices in relation to quality and quantity of food served is just not up to the mark. I’m not an overly-greedy person and I’m fairly easily pleased and for such reasons the old court house doesn’t come trumps when I pick a venue for dinner. I usually sway moreso to the St Marys Inn or Portlet Inn.

Oh and to get back on topic of your rant, I can’t believe they made jokes at your expense, it’s cruel and it’s inhuman to do that to a paying client/customer. I’m blacklisting them from here on in. Good call on that one mate.

As with most things you are right John, in terms of value to cost ratio this place is nowhere near good enough yeah you pay extra in places for the service and the experience but you don’t get that in this place and I won’t be going back.
I still have headache from the bang on the head and feel dizzy if I move too fast and although I’ve never had it before I’m sure this is what concussion is.

A quick trip to the doctors might be in order?

The OCH was my local for years. It used to be patronised by a group of eclactic locals and grudgingly accepted incomers.
Outsiders were never greatly accepted until they had gone through several months of initiation. I doubt this has changed
As for health and safety get a life! the real people in this pub are sailors, fishermen, travellers etc and essentially people who drink like heroes and dont give a toss! if you want a sanitised H&S compliant meal go back to the UK.
As for laughing at you? Bean humour - not to everyones taste.

Still fancy the Tenby over the OCH, however neither are my local so I’d tend not to go to either :oS - Homecooked meals are the way forward, or at least a quick trip to Marks and Sparks is in order! Here Here!
